M.O.V.E.
Marymount Opportunities for Volunteer Experience, or M.O.V.E., is the main volunteer club on campus. The Office of Student Life advises M.O.V.E., but it’s student leadership that really makes things happen.
Annual Events
Operation Teddy Bear
Every fall, M.O.V.E. helps The Volunteer Center, South Bay to prepare a colorful new backpack filled with reading books, crayons, flashcards, pencils, and all sorts of other supplies for underprivileged first graders in the Los Angeles area. For many of these children, it is the only gift they will receive during the holiday season.
Marymount students help by spending a Saturday stuffing backpacks with all the supplies and bagging the backpacks for delivery. In the past, M.O.V.E. has been one of the largest and hardest working volunteer groups. This past fall, around forty Marymount students stuffed more than 2000 backpacks in a single day! Students are also able to help deliver backpacks in early December if there class schedule is flexible enough.
Canyon Verde Carnival
Every spring for almost ten years, M.O.V.E. and the Office of Student Life partner with Canyon Verde College, an innovative activity center for adults with special needs located in nearby Rolling Hills Estates to put on a fun-filled day of activities pairing students and Canyon Verde clients. Typical activities include dance instruction, airbrushed tattoos, craft tables, and a featured performer after lunch. It's a great way for students and clients to make new friends and enjoy a day that no one can forget.
Blood Drives
M.O.V.E. sponsors up to four blood drives every academic year. These drives are held in the Student Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students, staff, and faculty are all encouraged to sign up and participate. Limited walk-ins are available, but reserving a time is suggested.
